The Hamlyn Symposium on Medical Robotics 2026

Each year, the Hamlyn Symposium on Medical Robotics brings together a global community focused on advancing healthcare through innovation. In 2026, the Symposium centres on a key challenge for the field: how ideas in medical robotics progress into technologies that deliver real clinical and economic value.

This year’s theme, “Medical Robotics: The Complex Journey from Ideation to Value Creation,” highlights the full pathway from early-stage research through to adoption in clinical practice. Surgeons, engineers, scientists, and industry leaders come together to explore what is required to move innovation forward—through development, validation, regulation, and implementation in real healthcare settings.

The programme spans keynote lectures, hands-on workshops, live demonstrations, and panel discussions, providing a platform to examine both technological advances and the practical barriers to translation. Particular focus is placed on bridging the gap between research and impact, addressing the challenges that often prevent promising technologies from reaching patients.

To facilitate deeper exchange and understanding of this translation journey, the Hamlyn Symposium on Medical Robotics introduces a new flagship format in partnership with the Multiscale Medical Robotics Centre (MRC, InnoHK): the MRC-Hamlyn Workshop. Integrated into the 2026 programme, this workshop places additional emphasis on translating research into tangible healthcare outcomes, while fostering discussion around funding, collaboration, and pathways to impact.

The Symposium will take place from 23–26 June 2026 at the Royal Geographical Society, London, UK. Organised by the Helen Hamlyn Centre at Imperial College London, it continues to attract an international audience and showcase developments across surgical robotics and digital healthcare.

Whether presenting new research, exploring emerging technologies, or building collaborations, the Hamlyn Symposium provides a forum to engage with the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of medical robotics and the delivery of patient care.
