The UK’s Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT) is gearing up to host its highly anticipated annual conference, poised to welcome 1,000-plus delegates.
This year’s theme is The Time is Now, and the conference aims to inspire delegates to shape the future of surgery through education, innovation and collaboration.
Scheduled from 8-10 March 2024 at the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC), the event promises a comprehensive line-up of activities, courses, and sessions to foster professional growth and advancement in surgical practice.
The conference begins with pre-conference courses spanning various surgical disciplines, sponsored by industry partners such as B.Braun and Medtronic.
These courses, held on 8 March, cover a wide range of topics, including laparoscopic techniques, specialty-specific procedures and leadership development.
Key highlights of the conference include:
• 8 March 2024: The event commences with an Official Opening and Drinks Ceremony presided over by the Chairman of BCP Council, Cllr Lesley Dedman, at the Purbeck Hall, BIC.
• 9 March 2024 (Day 1): The leading conference begins with a plenary session featuring a Meet the Presidents Q&A Session. Subsequent sessions include discussions on mental health, advances in surgery, training the next generation, extreme surgery, and redefining culture in surgery, among others. The day culminates with the ASiT Gala Charity Dinner, with proceeds dedicated to the Royal Medical Benevolent Fund.
• 10 March 2024 (Day 2): Highlights include the Battle of the Student Surgical Societies, academic research presentations, discussions on sustainable surgery, AI and robotics, and supporting training and patients through elective recovery. Plus, the ASiT 2024 Awards ceremony.
Additional activities and sessions include:
• The exhibition hall features sponsor expos, virtual poster presentations, surgical escape rooms, mentoring sessions and speciality villages.
• Breakout sessions cover various topics, including surgical skills workshops, oral prize sessions, spotlight poster sessions and discussions on various surgical specialties.
• RCS England and ASiT will host a welcome reception on 7 March to celebrate International Women’s Day at Bournemouth Highcliff Marriott Hotel. Pre-registration is here.
• Plus, the ASiT Gala Charity Dinner will be held at the Bournemouth Hilton on 9 March to support the Royal Medical Benevolent Fund. The dress code is black tie.
