Johnson & Johnson MedTech will showcase its latest surgical planning technology at The Surgeon Show, highlighting how digital innovation is supporting more precise and personalised thoracic surgery.
With a legacy of more than a century of scientific innovation, J&J MedTech continues to develop healthcare solutions designed to help surgeons plan and perform complex procedures with greater confidence. At this year’s event, the company will spotlight its collaboration with Materialise, demonstrating how advanced 3D visualisation can enhance surgical decision-making.
J&J MedTech UK has recently partnered with Materialise to bring Materialise Mimics for Thoracic Surgery to thoracic surgeons. The software enables the creation of detailed, patient-specific 3D models of lung anatomy, helping surgeons prepare for procedures such as segmentectomies and lobectomies.
Achieving lung-sparing resections while maintaining adequate margins remains a significant challenge in thoracic surgery due to complex and highly variable anatomy. By providing reliable 3D insights, the technology supports surgeons from precise pre-operative planning through to confident execution, with the surgical plan accessible both inside and outside the operating room.
Designed to integrate seamlessly into existing clinical workflows, the solution allows surgeons to visualise bronchovascular structures more clearly, supporting informed decision-making at every stage of the procedure.
Alongside showcasing technology, J&J MedTech will also highlight its ongoing commitment to medical education. The organisation works closely with key clinical societies and delivers education programmes that support lifelong learning, helping surgeons develop the skills needed to deliver optimal patient care.
Chloë Whitworth (Symes), Thoracic & Digital Surgery Marketing Manager – UK & Ireland at J&J MedTech, said:
“Thoracic surgery presents unique challenges, particularly when balancing precision with lung preservation. By showcasing this technology at The Surgeon Show, we’re demonstrating how advanced 3D planning can support surgeons in preparing for complex cases with greater confidence, while fitting seamlessly into everyday clinical practice.”
Visitors to The Surgeon Show will have the opportunity to see how J&J MedTech and Materialise are working together to shape a future of surgery that is increasingly connected, open and adaptive - where technology plays a central role in enabling personalised patient care.
This reflects a growing shift towards digital surgical planning as an essential tool in modern surgical practice, offering practical solutions to real-world clinical challenges.
