Survey launched for robotic surgery program trainers

The Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT) has launched a new survey to assess the perspective of robotic surgery trainers and directors about training in robotic surgery.

In 2020, ASiT surveyed its members on their experience and found more than 70 per cent had received no access to any form of robotic surgery exposure in their surgical training.

The ASiT now wants to hear from people involved in the implementation, use and assessment of robotic surgery training across different specialities in the UK and Ireland so it can understand robotic trainers’ opinions about current and future robotic surgery training.

Respondees will be asked to share what robotic surgical system is used by their hospital, how many single and double consoles are available and how many days they have access to robotic surgery.

They will also be surveyed on trainee numbers in their department, whether the institution offers robotic surgery fellowships and formal clinical curriculum for robotic surgery training and how soon trainees are exposed to robotic surgery.

Other questions include whether there are any barriers to robotic simulation at their institution and if more time should be devoted to robotic simulation training prior to trainees’ console use in the operating room?
