Huntleigh Academy is bringing together leading vascular surgeons from the UK, United States and France for a new educational webinar exploring the critical decisions that can arise during open arterial revascularisation surgery.
When Every Decision Counts: Intraoperative Challenges in Revascularisation Surgery will take place on Tuesday 8 September 2026 at 6.30pm BST. The free, one-hour webinar is the second event in Huntleigh Academy’s Close with Confidence series.
Despite careful planning and technical execution, unexpected challenges can arise during open arterial procedures. Surgeons may need to identify graft or flow abnormalities, interpret conflicting clinical and haemodynamic findings and decide whether a reconstruction should be revised or whether it is appropriate to proceed to closure.
Using two complex real-world cases, the international faculty will demonstrate how surgeons can approach these situations in a logical and systematic way. The session will also examine technologies available for intraoperative revascularisation assessment and review current international guidelines supporting their use.

- Dr Leigh Ann O’Banion, Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco Fresno
- Fabien Lareyre, Consultant and Head of the Department of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at the Hospital of Antibes, France

“This webinar will bring together three highly experienced vascular specialists to explore how these challenges can be investigated and managed. By working through complex real-world cases, the faculty will provide a practical framework that participants can apply directly to their own clinical practice.

Translate learning from complex cases directly into theatre practice
Professor Bosanquet’s NHS clinical work includes the treatment of patients with chronic limb-threatening ischaemia. He has also led numerous national and international research projects covering peripheral arterial disease, amputation surgery, wound healing, surgical site infection and clinical decision-making, securing approximately £18 million in competitive research funding.
Dr O’Banion is a board-certified vascular surgeon specialising in peripheral arterial disease, limb preservation, vascular trauma and venous disease. She leads nationally recognised research into limb preservation and amputation outcomes and is Principal Investigator for several multicentre vascular clinical trials.
Mr Lareyre’s research focuses on artificial intelligence in vascular surgery and medical imaging. He is a Fellow of the European Society for Vascular Surgery, Secretary General of VASCUNET and an Associate Editor of EJVES Vascular Forum. He has contributed to more than 190 scientific and clinical publications.
